Applicant Information
General:
- Applicants will be assessed on playing ability and personal suitability.
- Applicants must agree to a security check.
- Successful applicants must agree to adhere to a strict code of conduct, dress and demeanor when in uniform.
- Members may be asked to withdraw if minimum standards are not maintained.
Musical Standards:
- Although non-competitive in nature, the band intends to maintain a high musical standard in its performances. Therefore, interested applicants should be capable of playing at a grade 4 competitive level or higher.
- An applicant’s prior band experience will be considered.
- All applications to the band will be judged on individual merit.
- The Pipe Major and/or the Drum Sergeant will assess the applicant’s playing ability. Applicants who are not at a suitable level will be advised of the areas in which improvement is necessary. In some cases, applicants will be permitted to practice with the band while working on their playing level. However, this is no guarantee of ultimate acceptance as a dressed, playing member.
Dress and Deportment:
- All members are expected to maintain their dress and deportment in accordance with the high standards of the RCMP. Uniforms will be cleaned and pressed as required, worn according to regulation, including the shining of shoes, etc.
- Members of the band are not permitted to wear beards and hair must be kept at a reasonable length, as per Force regulations.
Personal Suitability:
- Applicants must be of good character and willing to work within a disciplined ‘team environment’.
